Global Venture Challenge™ began at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) in 2007 under the name Nano Nexus as an innovative endeavor offering students and businesses a unique opportunity to network with investors, top educators and leaders in industry along with experts in the research community who can help further their technologies.
The event is designed to accelerate the discovery and development of innovative ideas along the commercialization continuum, with the ultimate goal of launching new entrepreneurial ventures.
The 2010 Event
For three days in March 2010, Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) will host Global Venture Challenge™, a unique educational event which brings together teams of college and university graduate students from around the world to compete for significant cash prizes in each competition track. It attracts venture investors from across the country which serve as judges and provides the opportunity to get a glimpse at emerging research being conducted at ORNL.

- March 25, 2010 – Semi-finals Rounds
- March 26, 2010 – Finals Rounds
Global Venture Challenge™ 2010 is the fourth year of the business competition and will double in size and scope featuring innovations in energy and security.
This year, the event will feature two major components:
- Idea to Product® Competition:
- Track 1 – Advanced Materials for a Sustainable Energy Future
- Track 2 – Community Resilience and Homeland Security
